02.08.09: Portugal got a gold medal in the last day of track and Spain add three medal to its medal table

Today is the fourth and last day of competitions on track of this European Championship 2009 of Speed.

The competitions of the morning were predicted for 09.30 hours, but only they only had to celebrate one head of 5.000 meters Points/Elimination for Senior Men so the races began at 11.45 h. In these heats only the 14 first skaters would be classified for the final.

Later, at 15.30 the races came back after a pause and they began with the heat of 3.000 meters Relays for Cadet Ladies and Men, Junior Men and Senior Men. In these heats the three first teams would be in the final of six selections of this afternoon.

After eight races and a small break, at 17.30 h. began the finals of 10.000 meters Points/Elimination for Junior and Senior.

The first race of Point/Elimination was for the Junior Ladies category. In the head of the group were the Italian skaters, the Netherlander team and the Spanish skater Jessica Rodriguez. Because a big fall during the test, it was be suspended and it would be restarted after the Senior Men race.

The test of Junior Men was really quick. It was dominated by the French, Italian and Netherlander teams, but finally the Portuguese skater Martin Dias got the gold medal with 11 points. The silver and the bronze medals were for Belgian Jore van den Bergue and the French Joris Garderes, both with10 points.

In Senior Ladies, Italy got again the first place with Simona di Eugenio after got 16 points. The silver and the bronze medals were both for Germany. Mareike Thum, with 14 points got the second position followed by her team-mate Sabine Berg with 7 points.

The Belgian Bart Swings dominated the test of Senior Men, where got almost all the scores of two points. On the other hand, the Italian Matteo Amabili got points too, but finally was eliminated a lost all his points. The gold was finally for Bart. The silver medal was for the Spanish skater Patxi Peula and the bronze medal was for the Netherlander Chrispijn Ariens.

After this race, the test of Junior Ladies continued with only the skaters who were in the test when it was suspended and each one with her points. Finally the Italian Giuliana de Blasio got the gold medal, meanwhile the German Katherina Rumpus arrived in second place. The bronze medal was for the Spanish, Jessica Rodriguez who made an excellent test.

After a break, at 21.30 h. was the moment for the last finals of the test of track: the races of 3.000 meters Relays for the three categories.

In Cadet Ladies Germany dominated and got the gold medal, meanwhile the silver and the bronze were for Italy and Belgium. In Men the race was busier. Italy fell and France was disqualified. The gold was for Germany followed by The Netherlands that was second and Denmark that got its first medal in this European Championship.

In the test of Junior Ladies the selection from The Netherlanders made an escape and got the gold medal. The silver was for Germany that continued being in the European podium. The bronze was for the Spanish selection. In Men Belgium susprised and arrived in first position. The silver medal was for The Netherlanders, meanwhile in third position arrived Portugal, but it was disqualified and the bronze medal was for France.

In Senior Ladies the gold was again for Germany in an exciting sprint where finally the silver medal was for Italy. The third position was for The Netherlanders in an amazing last lap.

The last test of today was for Senior Men, where France made an escape at the beginning, but in the last lap the Belgian Bart Swings overcame (at a speed of 47,46 kilometers per hour) from the last places and got the gold medal. The silver was for France meanwhile the bronze was for Italy.
