Five minutes after this test
began the race of Junior Men with the
participation of more skaters than in Ladies.
The test was really fast and
the Portuguese Martyn Dias with the French
Thomas Bourdas tried an escape and got an
advantage of some meters, but finally the group
took them.
When they lacked ten laps,
Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and France tried
an escape but they couldn’t because the group
followed them.
Later a skater from Czech
Republic with a Netherlander and a Belgian tried
again but only got advantage during two laps.
In the last lap France
overcame for fight for the European gold, but
the great skater from Belgium, Jore van den
Berghe arrived in first position. The silver was
for Maurice Vriend (The Netherlands) and the
bronze for the French Joris Garderes.
At 15.00 h. was the moment
for the Senior Ladies category. The Netherlands
tried many times an escape with Anniek ter Haar
and Mariska Huisma, but Italy overcame in all of
this moments.
When they lacked ten laps to
go, a group of four skaters, Sabine Berg, Elma
de Vries, Simona di Eugenio and Nadine Gloor
took an advantage of almost half-lap. Only the
skater from Denmark Sara Back tried to take them
and made alone almost the entire race, but in
the last lap the group took her.
The four first positions were
finally for the group of four skaters. The gold
medal was for Sabine Berg, who made an attack
and arrived in first position. The silver medal
was for Elma de Vries (The Netherlands) and the
bronze medal was for Simona di Eugenio.
In fourth position arrived
Nadine Gloor (Swiss).
The last test of this
European Championship 2009 of Speed Skating was
the marathon for Senior Men. Belgium, Italy and
France were the favorites
We could be escapes during
the entire race, for example
in
the first lap, Ferre Spruyt and Wouter Hebbrecht
tried an escape but only Spruyt could made it
during some laps, because the Spanish Patxi
Peula and the French Alexis Contin and Ewen
Fernandez took them.Later a group of eight
skaters tried again an escape but they couldn’t.
Some laps later Patxi Peula,
Crispinf Ariens and Igman Berga took some
advantage but later the peloton overcame again.
Finally
the gold was for the Belgian Bart Swings
followed by the Italian Fabio Francolini.
The bronze medal was for the Belgina Ferre
Spruyt.
With this test finish the
European Championship 2009 of Speed Skating for
the categories Cadet, Junior and Senior.
